Our black lacquer chest of drawers is a modern design - the Chinese did not use chests of drawers as we did in the west until quite recently - but the classic frame and panel joinery and circular brass handles are typical of traditional Chinese furniture

Based on the old grain cabinets of Qinghai province in western China

There is plenty of storage space provided by the central doors and the drawers at either side

They include a simple embossed design and in some cases also show the red wax seal that is applied when they are cleared for export

As they are produced by hand, each one is very slightly different and their robes are painted in muted greens, reds and blues.
