After several centuries in the Holy Land, they retreated to Rhodes and then to the island of Malta; hence the name Maltese. The 8 points of the cross represent the 8 Beatitudes. It was worn for protection of fire based weapons, which is why it is still used by firefighters today. The sizes are small (5 8" wide), medium (3 4" wide), large (1" wide), and extra large (1 1 2")
